Nicholas Cleobury - conductor
Sophie Bevan - soprano
Purcell arr. Britten - Chaconne
Mozart - Divertimento in D, K.136
Britten - Les Illuminations
Mahler - Adagietto from Symphony No.5
Britten - Variations on a theme of Frank Bridge
Two of Benjamin Britten’s most beautiful works are coupled with music which he either arranged or simply loved. Britten himself conducted the ECO in all of the above music during the 25 years when he was closely associated with the Orchestra.
On the 100th anniversary of his birth, this is a fitting homage to one of England’s greatest ever composers.
