ECO at Cadogan Hall: Handel’s Messiah
18:30 Cadogan Hall, London
This performance of the Messiah is dedicated to the memory of Raymond Leppard CBE and will be introduced by Dame Janet Baker.
When King George II first heard Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus, it’s said that he jumped to his feet in excitement. But if Hallelujah! is all you know of Handel’s Messiah, you’re in for a glorious surprise, because every note is just as inspired. Not so much an oratorio, more a national institution, this is simply some of the most uplifting music ever written, and the ECO’s Advent Sunday performances at Cadogan Hall have become something of a seasonal tradition. With Simon Wright conducting the handpicked singers of the Winchester Consort, tonight we celebrate all the melody and majesty of this timeless classic.
