Mozart & Haydn: Sturm und Drang at Cadogan Hall
19:30 Cadogan Hall, London
Join us for this wonderful programme, exploring some of the great works by Mozart & Haydn. ‘Sturm und Drang’ or ‘Storm and Stress’ was a proto-Romantic movement in German literature and music in the mid to late 18th century. It saw composers expressing the extremes of emotion within their compositions. Much like other artists of the period, both Mozart & Haydn wrote works that feel within this movements aesthetics.
Perhaps the most well-known work we will perform in this concert is Mozart’s 25th Symphony. A thrilling piece that became very popular after it’s use in the opening of the Oscar-winning biopic of Mozart’s life ‘Amadeus’. It is said that Mozart was inspired when writing this symphony, by another piece in our programme, Haydn’s Symphony No. 39. Both symphonies have an energy and excitement to them that will keep the listener on the edge of their seat.
For this concert, we are joined and will be directed by the outstanding and esteemed conductor and instrumentalist, Christian Zacharias. Throughout his career, Zacharias has captured with integrity and brilliance the essence of the music he performs.
