William Bennett (Wibb) Born 7 February 1936 Died 11 May 2022

It is with much sadness we announce the death of the former ECO Principal Flautist William Bennett, affectionately known as Wibb. Wibb will always be fondly remembered, among a host of other achievements, for his vivid and mesmeric concerto appearances for the orchestra, his critically acclaimed recordings of Messiaen, Handel, Berio and Boulez, and his invention of the William Bennet Scale for flute makers.
